Born in 1940 and the youngest of three children, Antonio Ciccone was raised amongst vineyards, olive groves and livestock in the cool climate Calabrian hillsides of Italy. At fourteen his grandfather Antonio began to instruct him in the making of homemade wine. In 1956 Antonio left his roots to begin a new life in Australia. Working for a short time in Melbourne, he was persuaded to find work on a farm in Gunbower, growing tobacco, due to better prospects.
In 1963, Antonio moved to Cheshunt in the King Valley and continued to grow tobacco. He married Josephine from his hometown in 1965 and had three children. In 1968 Antonio planted his first two acres of Shiraz vines and began to dabble in wine making again.
Antonio’s sons Pat and Joe decided to follow their father’s passion for wine.
They established their first 20 acres in 1995 with a vision to develop the Ciccone name into an iconic wine to be enjoyed by generations to come. |
